Budget gaming PCs can be more powerful than EVER! And going for $300-$400 price point gets you something thats still impressive! What do you guys think? Parts list and clean boot instructions below! Parts used: - ATX PSU adapter 🤍 or 🤍 - CPU: 6-core Xeon E5-1650v4 (i7-6800k equivalent) 🤍 or if you want more cores, the 8-Core Xeon E5-2667v4 🤍 (do not get anything marked ES or QS) - HP Z440 Motherboard (intel x99 equivalent) 🤍 (helpful to get one advertised as bios updated to support v4 CPUs, or ask the seller if v4 CPUs are supported. If not, a v3 CPU will be needed to update the BIOS to support v4 broadwell Xeons) - GPU: RX 580 🤍 , GTX 1060 6gb 🤍 , or GTX 1070 for a little more money to get alot more performance 🤍 (pay close attention to the listing details to make sure they aren't listed broken or for parts only under the wrong classification) RAM - DDR4 ECC RAM 8gb sticks 🤍 - Cooler: Zalman CNPS10X Performa 🤍 , Performa Black 🤍 , or RGB 🤍 - Case: Zalman i3 Neo Black 🤍 - PSU: Zalman Gigamax 600w 🤍 , or if not in stock - Thermaltake 80+ Gold 600w PSU 🤍 or Thermaltake Smart 80+ 600w 🤍 Steps to make these clean boot: -For the CPU fan header, align the 4 pin PWM CPU fan from your cooler to the 4 pins closest to the top edge of the motherboard and plug it in. You might need to pull the tab back on the fan header a little for the connector to seat, but that shouldn't require much if any force. See this image: 🤍 -Use a 4-pin PWM fan on the Rear Fan PWM header -Plug a USB 3.0 front panel connector to the BLUE usb 3.0 header. If this doesn't work, move your front panel USB 3 header over to the black USB 3 header and try a USB 3 to female USB port adapter on the blue mobo USB 3 header (🤍 You can also try a USB 2.0 to USB 3.0 header adapter (up to you to plug your case's USB 2.0 front panel connector to this or to the motherboard directly. Whatever works) 🤍 -For Power Switch, look for the big motherboard header with a bunch of pins below the bottom PCIE slot. The blank pin is the key. Go over to the right of the key by 1 pin, then place the PWR SW connector on that pin and the pin directly across from it. SEE ATTACHED IMAGE: 🤍 -For Front HD Audio connector, line up the blank pin with the header adapter and plug it in. You'll see 2 remaining pins on the left side of the connector, closest to the back of the PC. Bridge those 2 pins. Using a jumper is easiest (🤍 SEE ATTACHED IMAGE: 🤍 -DO NOT USE MORE THAN 4 STICKS OF RAM. I know these have 8 DIMMS but if you use more than 4 ram sticks, it will throw a MEMORY FAN boot error. I recently won a Dell T5600 dual Intel Xeon workstation on eBay for just over £100 including postage. This machine has 12 cores and 24 threads total, as well as 32GB of DDR3 memory. A lot of these motherboards are uniquely made by ripping old chipsets from e-waste motherboards (like ones that stopped working), then gluing all the salvaged parts together into a new product. This one is the Jing4sha1 Shuang1lu4 motherboard, or the "Two-Way" dual-X99 Jingsha board. We combined it with two Xeon CPUs, but also bought a third Xeon at 14C for $70. The total cost to get the two 12C CPUs (about $100 each) and the motherboard was around $360, making this one of the cheapest ways to get so many threads. Although scavenging for retired hardware is a lot of fun, modern CPU advancements have threatened the viability of solutions like this. As such, we'll be testing it against far cheaper solutions for gaming like the R3 3100 and 3300X and more expensive solutions for work (like the 3900X). Like our content?
