“We need to go slower so people can cope with the changes.” Rishi Sunak delaying Net Zero pledges is the right call as Brits need time to “cope with big impacts”, says Head of Policy Net Zero Watch Harry Wilkinson. 📻 Listen to Times Radio - 🤍🤍thetimes.co.uk/radio 📍 Subscribe to our channel - 🤍🤍youtube.com/channel/UCTjDhFuGXlhx9Us0gq0VK2w?sub_confirmation=1 🗞 Subscribe to The Times 🤍🤍thetimes.co.uk/subscribe/radio-3for3/ 📲 Get the free Times Radio app 🤍🤍thetimes.co.uk/radio/how-to-listen-to-times-radio/app
He's only doing this because next year, 2024 we all get to vote who we want as priminister, He's frightened he'll loose.
Climate change is, whether Rishi S likes it or not, both extremely serious and time sensitive.
His father in law gets a 1.5 billion pound contract from an oil company. Two weeks later he announced drilling rights in the North Sea and then this. He said he was going to tax BP and She’ll in their windfall but left them a loophole to avoid paying tax. The guy is grifting in full view.
Greenwashing++
Climate destabilisation will make people poor.
The growth in China’s emissions this year is more than Great Britain’s total emissions, start talking about that on tv.
We cant even look after our own, and your opening the floodgates to more immigration.
I dont see Canary Wharf helping much with net Zero. Your talking about save the planet while being robbed by the government.
The Conservative party is funded by the fossil fuel industry. Any other explanation is just a distraction.
We have to stop using fossil fuels, including oil for cars. There are 2 ways to handle the transition:
A. You phase out the cars by requiring an increasing % to be EVs until you get to 100%, ie a ban on ICE.
Or B. You phase out the fuel by either raising tax on the fuel or by requiring fuel to be blended with efuel at increasing % until there is no drilled oil in it. Either way the price of fuel goes up.
If you choose option A it only affects people well off enough to buy new cars because 2nd hand cars are not affected. If you choose B then people well off enough to buy new electric cars are fine but people driving ICE cars, most of which are 2nd hand, suffer higher costs. When you think it through like that it's clear that A is better for less well off people. Anyone arguing against A talking about cost of living is being disingenuous. The only people negatively impacted by this policy are those who are rich enough to buy a new car (rather than 2nd hand) but unwilling to switch to electric. The price difference between new electric and new ice cars that are equivalent in features is getting smaller all the time. Some models of car sold in both versions are the same price already. The main problem is a lack of low end EVs but that is also being sorted. Production scale EVs have only existed for 13 years. 2030 is 7 years away which is about 50% of the entire existence of EVs so far. By that time EVs will cost the same or less than ICE and there will be plenty of cheap models. There would be no problem keeping the previous date. The slightly earlier ban date made the UK a more attractive place to set up EV manufacturing compared to the rest of the EU. We need every edge we can get. By moving the date back we lose that competitive advantage. This is a mistake.
Net zero is insanity
Wow, he's gonna let folks eat meat still!
The pollution is going up with our population swell. We need to stop giving anyone who pops out a baby. Are comes from a poor country citizenship. There are 3 billion people in poverty. We need to get real.
The climate crisis is nothing more than a tax.
How come all of the predictions never come true ?
Or wait thats because the world has natural cooling and warming cycles.
And the biggest CO2 emitter?
Volcanic eruptions.... can't tax them though 💀💀💀💀💀
The narrative out of western governments is illogical. On the one hand they claim humanity is in a climate emergency and chaos will ensue unless we goto net zero immediately … on the other hand they are heeing and hawing on how to respond to the emergency. Seems like a total scam to me
It is to help with the cost of living crisis & affordability. Then he states Land Rover Jaguar as being please with the policy change the well known makers of affordable cars lol.
Net Zero needs to be drowned not just watered down.
Neo-feudalism can take a hike.
The PM is actually doing this as a cover to weaken property standards on installation so his family members that own property in the rental market don’t have to upgrade their properties, this is the real reason.
All I can say is I NEVER want to buy one of these silly electric cars!!! Absolutely no way will anyone get me in one of those
