In this session video, you are going to learn Apache Sqoop. In this tutorial, we will talk about and understand, what is Apache Sqoop, its architecture and let us look at a few real-time hands on examples. What is Sqoop? Sqoop stands for SQL to Hadoop. Suppose, if you have a requirement to move data from the traditional relational database management system i.e. RDBMS to HDFS or from HDFS to RDBMS then Sqoop is the utility tool you are most likely to use. What Sqoop Does? It has got the excellent use case because in the migration projects there is often a requirement to migrate the data from the existing RDBMS solution to the new HDFS file system. Sqoop can perform both imports as well as export. Import is moving data from RDBMS to the HDFS and export is the reverse process that is moving data from the HDFS to RDBMS. By HDFS means HDFS storage or it may be HBase, or Hive table also. Uses of Sqoop So what exactly the Sqoop is used for. Sqoop allows easy import and export of data from structured data stores of RDBMS such as relational databases, enterprise data warehouse and NoSQL systems to HDFS. Using Sqoop, you can provide data from external sources to HDFS and populate tables in Hive or HBase. It also integrates well with the data orchestration firm like Oozie to schedule and automate the import and export tasks and it uses the Connector-based architecture which supports plugins so that you can connect to any of the RDBMS like MySql, or Oracle, or any other Relational Database Management system which has got the connector support to connect to the new external systems. How to import incremented data from RDBMS to HDFS?
Apache Sqoop is one of the main ecosystem on top of Hadoop. Basically Apache sqoop is used to importing the data from RDBMS to HDFS and exporting the data from HDFS to RDBMS.If you want to install Sqoop in your system first you have to install Hadoop. When you want to install Sqoop in your system first of all check the versions compatibly of Hadoop and sqoop.If you are using Hadoop 1.1.2 then the compatibly version of Sqoop is sqoop 1.4.3 . Prerequisites for Sqoop : 1. Hadoop Starting Hadoop: start-all.sh Stoping Hadoop: stop-all.sh Download sqoop from apache mirrors: 🤍 Download 'sqoop-1.4.3.tar.gz' file from hadoop repository. Copy 'sqoop-1.4.3.tar.gz' file into this '/home/hadooptpoint/HDP_INSTALL' directory. Extract the tar file in same directory. Apache Sqoop - Overview Using Hadoop for analytics and data processing requires loading data into clusters and processing it in conjunction with other data that often resides in production databases across the enterprise. Loading bulk data into Hadoop from production systems or accessing it from map reduce applications running on large clusters can be a challenging task. Sqoop allows easy import and export of data from structured data stores such as relational databases, enterprise data warehouses, and NoSQL systems. Using Sqoop, you can provision the data from external system on to HDFS, and populate tables in Hive and HBase.
