(Turn on Youtube Subtitles for English Subtitles) Farewell of Slavianka is a Russian patriotic march, written by the composer Vasily Agapkin in honour of the Slavic women accompanying their husbands in the First Balkan War. The march was written and premiered in Tambov in the end of 1912. In summer of 1915 it was released as a gramophone single in Kiev. Slavyanka means "Slavic woman". The march was used as an unofficial anthem of Admiral Kolchak's White Army. In addition, the melody is used, with different lyrics, as the anthem of the Tambov Oblast.

We have composed many a song in our heart, Glorifying the native land. We've loved you no matter what, You, our holy Russian land. You've raised your head high, Your face has been shining like the sun. You've become a victim of betrayal by those who have cheated and sold you! Refrain: And again in march trumpet calls us. We all stand in order And go to the holy battle. Arise, Russian Land, defend the faith! Russia's holiness awaits victory. Respond, the Orthodox host! Where is your Ilya, where is Dobrynia? The mother is summoning her sons. Under the banners of all we stand boldly Procession with prayers go, For the Russian right thing The blood we shed Russian honestly. Refrain We all are children of a Great Power, We all remember the forefathers' commandment: For the Homeland, Honor, Glory, Pity neither yourself nor the foes. Arise, Russia, from your prison of slavery, Victory's spirit is called: time to do battle! Rise your battle flags For Faith, Love, and Good.

Behind the "Farewell Slavianka" (by win081, 11.2013) The music was composed in 1912 by Vasily Ivanovish Agapkin who was inspired by the Serbian mothers who sending their loved ones to fight the First Balkan War against the Ottoman Turks (🤍 Vasily Agapkin was a trumpet-major in the marching band of the 7th Cavalry Regiment in Tambov, he was also invoved with the class of brass insruments in the Tambov Music School. It was Yakov Bogorad, a music publisher in Simferopol, who came up with the name "Farewell Slavianka" when he published the scores in 1912. The march was first performed by the marching band of the 7th Cavalry Regiment (where Vasily Agapkin was with) in the autumn of 1912. The first gramophone record was released by Ekstrafon Kiev in the summer of 1915 and it immediately gained wide popularity in Russia and adjoining countries. Since then different lyrics have been created for the different occasions, such as volunteer march song for the student battalion ("You have acces and nurtured ..."), Siberian People's Army march song, the march song of Kolchak White Army, ... Lyrics were also created in different languages such as in the Polish ("Rozszumiały się wierzby płaczące") during WWII, the Finnish ("Свободная Россия", "Рейо Франк"), the Jewish ("בין גבולות"), ... The most well-known version probably still is the one at the time for the First Balkan War against the Ottoman Turks: "Arise, Russia Fatherland, defend your Faith, ... Russian Holiness is waiting for victory, Take action Orthodox men, ... Rise your battle flag for Faith, Love and Righteousness". This lyric was not just promoting the patriotism, it was also defending the faith of Orthodox Christianity against the Ottoman Islam. After the WWII the Red Army Choir had a version with the deep pride of the victory of the Great Patriotic War ("..., They defended Moscow in '41, They marched in Berlin in '45, ...") and it has been always performed by the military band when they are leaving the Red Square at the end of the military parade in former Soviet and in Russia today. The lyric of this video is written by Vladimir Lazarev in 1984 and it has gained the popularity since the Soviet dissolved in 1991 because of the slower tempo and the added human fragility factor ("Farewell, fatherland, remember us, ... ... not all of us will come back. ..."). Zarif Pashaevna Mogoyan ("Zara") is from a Kurdish Yezidi family that originally lived in northern Iraq, moved to Leninakan of Armenia, and then to Russia in late 1970's. She was born in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) in 1983. While still under the age of 16, she has won awards in many competitions (in Moscow, Cario, Omsk, Sochi). At age of 21 she graduated from St. Petersburg Academy of Theatre Arts. "Farewell of Slavianka" (Russian: Прощание славянки) is a Russian patriotic march, written by the composer Vasily Agapkin in honour of Slavic women accompanying their husbands in the First Balkan War. The march was written and premiered in Tambov in the end of 1912. In summer of 1915 it was released as a gramophone single in Kiev. Slavianka means "Slavic woman". Subscribe!: 🤍 Twitter: 🤍 It was commonly believed that prior to its use in the award-winning 1957 film "The Cranes Are Flying", the song was banned in the Soviet Union because of its lyrics about banned subjects, however the melody originally lacked lyrics and there exist numerous competing versions written in different historical periods and about different subjects. The march was certainly published during the Soviet times as early as in 1929, though without the lyrics, and there are conflicting reports of it being used during the iconic November 7 parade in 1941 (ironically, conducted by Agapkin himself). The song was originally published by Zimmerman Production Association around 1912. The march was published in an official collection of music for Red Army orchestras, and it was recorded in the early 1940s by a military orchestra under the conductor Ivan Petrov (1906–1975), but different lyrics were then used. Other lyrics are now usually sung by the Red Army choir.

I'll say it real slow and the accent is on the third syllable. Do svee-dah-nyah. Do svee-dah-nyah. Now you try. Great. And basically, that means until we meet again and it's the most common way of parting with someone. Another very similar and accepted way of saying goodbye is do-vstre-chi. That's two words. The accent is on the first syllable of the second word. I'll say it slower. Do vstre-chi. Do vstre-chi. Now you give it a try. Do vstre-chi. Excellent. Now, if you were to wish all the best for someone, you would say vse-vo do- bro-vo. That's two words. The first word hits the accent on the second syllable. The second word hits the accent on the first syllable. Now, I'll say it slow all together. Vse-vo do-bro-vo. One more time at normal speed and then, it's your turn. Vse-vo do-bro-vo. Excellent. And finally, when parting with a friend whom you'll see soon ie. later, you can just say pah-kah. A little slower, pah-kah. The accent is on the second syllable. Pah-kah. Now you give it a try. Happy victory day, comrades! Song dedicated to the conclusion of the GSFG - Group of Soviet Forces in Germany (ГСВГ) [1945-1994]. English Translation: We bid farewell, bid farewell to Germany... The embrace of our dear country awaits us Remember us, the soldiers of the Russian army, Who were saving the world from the brown plague! Tanks are going home unarmed The crew was matured during the military service If only the old march "Farewell of Slavianka" Wouldn't send us to a front-line echelon. Farewell Germany, farewell! Our dear Motherland awaits us. The war fire has died down long ago We are parting as friends Greet us Motherland, greet! Live and prosper! Having our duty fulfilled, We're devolting our hearts to Russia! We'll be meet by native russian birches Dew like pearls sparkle on leaves A mother will wipe off tears of joy covertly Girls's eyes shine with happiness We’re departing, our songs aren’t, A simple Russian Soul lives in it Let it go from one heart to another And tell how good Russia is! Farewell Germany, farewell! Our dear Motherland awaits us. The war fire has died down long ago, We are parting as friends Greet us Motherland, greet! Live and prosper! Having our duty fulfilled, We're devolting our hearts to Russia! (x2)

Farewell of Slavianka Russian White Army Song : "Farewell of Slavianka" [1 Hour Version]
This is from the very end of a video I saw on this site: Barma (🤍 Title is: "Хворостовский, Гаранча | Hvorostovsky, Garanca, Moscow 29.10.2015" Hvorostovsky just launches into this beautiful and bewitching folk song and does it acapella and seemingly spontaneously. Several people in the audience are in tears and so is Elīna Garanča. The conductor kisses Hvorostovsky at the end of it. Does anyone know more about this? Hadn't he just recently returned to the stage after finding out about having cancer? He was such a light in the world and what a smile! I will add English subtitles to this later but here are the lyrics: "Farewell, happiness, my life, I know you go around without me It means we must part; I won't see you any more Dark little night! Ah, but I can not sleep! I myself don't know why You, dear little girl, ... You alone disturb me, You alone deprived me of rest. (refrain; Dark etc) Remember, remember that May day, My dear one and I went to swim. We sat on the sand, On the yellow, the soft sand. Dark little night! Ah, but I can not sleep..."
Informal farewells and greetings are used between family members, peer group members, and people of the same age.
