Oris' vintage reissue collection is one of our favorites released in recent years, particularly under the $5,000 price point! Today, we're reviewing the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date and three Divers Sixty-Five models. Thank you to London Jewelers for partnering with us on this video and making it possible. What we have here are 7 watches, all falling into 3 sub-categories. The first is the Big Crown Pointer Date. The line comes in either 36mm or 40mm in diameter, with a range of dial colors from black to mint green, and both steel and bronze cases. At $1600 on a strap, and $1800 on a bracelet, they're a tremendous value prop, and it's hard to argue with the style and functionality of a watch with a big crown and a legible dial. Next up, we have the Divers Sixty-Five collection. Oris' original divers were released in 1965, hence the name, and much of their original style has been ported over to these new models. While the originals were 36mm in diameter, these new editions are (for the most part) 40mm in diameter, but unlike other watches that don't handle the change in sizing well when it comes to reinterpreting the design language that made the watch work in the first place, Oris nails it. At $2100 on bracelet, and $1850 on strap, what we have here is another major contender for value prop of the decade. Lastly, we have the...Divers Sixty-Five collection??? Okay, so Oris seem to have two separate Divers 65 ranges. The first is the one we previously discussed, and the next is this, with a wider selection of sizes and dial configurations. And that's...where the differences end, quite honestly. There isn't a whole lot else to talk about on that front, but regardless of the weirdness of the model names, what Oris have created here and across their range is not only impressive, but outright incredible.
These are 3 things I think most people are not aware of. The last point, which is the main point, is still not confirmed by Oris. But I sent them an email. But if you move around the watch a lot while winding it will move the pallet and take it out of lock position. But if you keep it still like I have in this video the locking phase seems stronger then the traditional JEWEL pallets where it can slide out of it with enough main spring force. When I think of a pilot watch, an image of a classic fleiger immediately comes to mind. #realwatchesforrealpeople Thank you Oris for lending in a really lovely watch! Is it silly to value value in the history of a watch? For me, no. I really enjoy the evolution of this model within Oris' history. It is interesting and brings some added strength to the proposition. What do you think? I don't feel that Oris leads the industry in terms of specs, or tactile elements. There are watches out there from other brands that exceed in those areas. But I have a hard time seeing those watches in the same light as Oris. Oris brings an overall strong package to the table with many of their designs. I think that is more attractive or enticing. A Review and Unboxing of my Oris Divers Sixty-Five. It is a watch that once was extremely popular on the platform (around 2017) but has since been less sought after. This particular model, the original, has been discontinued. The design of the original dial is inspired and unique to the brand. Sadly, because of its polarising typeface and quirks, it is not appreciated as much as it should be. I believe these originals have an X-factor that many other makers in much higher tiers don't.
