Ken was kind enough to join me (Colin) on Sacred Symbols+ for an extensive and wide-ranging conversation, one that touches on his history, his games, his studios, his creative approach, and his mantra as a writer and director. It's been a decade since Mr. Levine has launched a new title; it's hard to believe BioShock is nearly 16 years old, while BioShock Infinite is 10! Did you know that Irrational Games in the early 2000s shelved a completed game based on Dante's The Divine Comedy, and that thanks to a studio in India, you can play it? Patrons can get early access to videos, featured in credits, and receive a weekly newsletter: 🤍 Want to check this game out? It's abandonware. You can get the game here - 🤍 Had zero issues getting it to run on Windows 10. In the early 2000s, Ken Levine and Irrational Games were making "The Lost", a title for the PS2 & Xbox in a Zelda style, based on Dante's The Divine Comedy. They finished the game, weren't happy with it, and decided not to ship it. Then the story gets weird...a studio in India talked with Ken Levine, and they eventually bought the rights to the game, releasing it in India in 2008, more or less the same, but with Bollywood actors. Eventually, a version akin to the original in English was made, which is what we now have...not known as "The Lost", but as "Netherworld: Beyond Time I Stand". This song is genius and beauty as well as madness and chaos. Ren is a rare musical talent. Writing clear powerful lyrics and giving raw emotional performances. This was a gut wrenching performance to witness and it snuck up on me. Seeing how the whole dialogue unfolds with Ren and his subconscious and the resulting triumphant integration of the shadow self is beautiful - however it struck pretty close to home for me in that final monologue...
