Sailing Greece in 2022. Best places to sail in Ionian. Islands, towns, anchorages, marinas. We are sailing in the Mediterranean and living on our sailboat since 2021. We embarked on a passage from Croatia to Turkey. We plan to use the entire 2022 sailing season for this 1100 journey to explore 4 Mediterranean countries. Croatia, Montenegro, Greece, and Turkey. From Adriatic, through the Ionian to the Aegean. We share some beautiful anchorages, marinas, unspoiled islands, great sites, and expenses along the way. In this episode, we cover our passage from the biggest Ionian island, Corfu to bay of Lefkada. On the way we visit, Paxos, Preveza, Kalamos, Kastos and Atokos. We recently quit our high-tech jobs in California, bought a sailboat, and moved to the Mediterranean. We are just starting our adventure of sailing around the world and experiencing life on a sailboat. In this sailing vlog 2022, we will share our experiences as a sailing couple on YouTube who spends our first year sailing extensively throughout the Mediterranean coast. With the help of Christian and his friend Bart, both licensed skippers, I got to sail around the Ionian islands for the second time. We drove from Athens to pick up the boat in Lefkada before continuing to Kefalonia, Ithaca (Ithaki), Antipaxos, Paxos, and then back to Antipaxos. This week on Kawai we leave Preveza and navigate through Lefkas canal. We are the last in line as we enter the 3.5 mile canal and enjoy watching the locals fishing on the banks of the canal. We enjoy a nice downwind sail to our next anchorage, Vlikho Bay. This large bay is full of liveaboards and is well protected from the wind and swell. We use the time to freshen up, enjoy some local hospitality however can't swim due to the large jellyfish population in the bay. The next destination is Ithaca. We get some great winds and sail the 20nm, with the wind slightly ahead of the beam, Kawai loves this wind angle and we love this sail. Ithaca is my favourite Greek Island and has amazing beaches, lush vegetation and some stunning anchorages. We visit Sarakiniko Beach, Filiatro Beach, Tilemakos Beach and Skhoinos Beach. We spend most of our time in Filiatro Bay, enjoy swimming, hiking, exploring and cleaning the local beaches. Unfortunately the beaches have a variety of litter so we spend a couple of hours returning them to their natural beauty. Our time at Filiatro comes to an end as the weather takes a turn for the worse and we sail to the sheltered bay of Vathy, the main harbour in Ithaca. About us: Our names are Jason and Tracey and we traded our house, cars, business, job and security for freedom, adventure, travel and living simply amongst nature and the seas on our 45 foot Hanse 445 sailing boat, Kawai. We don't know exactly where the winds will take us at this stage but over the next year we hope to sail to Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia. Episode 22: Sailing between Greek Isle’s Meganisi, Ithaca and Lefkada This week on Sailing Eriskay Cass and Shelly sail between Vathy Meganisi, Vathy Ithaca, Syvota, Lefkada and end up anchored in Agios Nicolous, Ithica by ourselves. We explore this island, finally bring out the BIKINIS and enjoy some sunshine. What beautiful anchorages we have explored and added a few new Greek islands to our checklist of firsts. We explore ancient buildings and find a swing hanging from an old olive tree. Take a dinghy ride to an old church on a tiny island and had several seagulls dive bomb us. Thankfully not a single bird bomb landed on our head 😂🙌🏼 💩 Next week we fix a line (rope) up the mast before heading south towards Kefalonia and Zakinthos. We visited the Greek island Lefkada in summer 2019 and were totally impressed by its beauty. This tiny island in the Ionian Sea, which is also called Lefkas, is a true gem. You will find some of the best beaches, crystal clear turquoise water, a livley main town, green hills and mountains and many sweet little villages. We stayed in a very nice appartment in the hills above Agios Nikitas for one week. Aftewards we spent another ten days on the neighbour island Kefalonia, which was awesome, too. GREECE 4K - Ionian Islands Kefalonia Lefkada Zakynthos - GoGlobe. Please enjoy my best of Ionian Islands, which I filmed during my travel trip to Greece! Kefalonia (Cephalonia) is an island in the Ionian Sea, west of mainland Greece. It's marked by sandy coves and dry rugged landscapes. Its capital, Argostoli, is built on a hillside overlooking a narrow harbor. Kefalonia's indented coastline is made up of limestone cliffs, bays and short strips of white sand, like Myrtos Beach in the north. Many beaches are only accessible on foot or via narrow twisting roads. Less known but just as well amazing and breathtaking places are Assos and Fiskardo village, Petani Beach, Paralia Platia Ammos (no longer accessible due to damage to the (formerly 300) stairs leading down to the beach during the 2014 earthquake) and many other points of interest I found while visiting Kefalonia. Zakynthos (Zante) is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea and a well-known summer resort. Popular beaches like Agios Nikolaos, Alykanas and Tsilivi offer swimming and water sports. Accessed by boat, Navagio beach is the site of a famed 1980 shipwreck resting in a sandy cove framed by cliffs. Navagio beach (also called Shipwreck Beach) counts to the Top 10 best and most beautiful beaches in the world! Keri Beach is one hidden and almost unknown instagrammable spot on Zante. Lefkada (Levkas) is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea, connected to the mainland by a causeway. West coast beaches like Porto Katsiki and Egremni feature sheer cliffs and turquoise waters. The east coast is known for its traditional villages, including the seaside resort of Nydri. In the north, Lefkada town is the island's gateway and capital. Vassiliki, in the south, attracts windsurfers. Milos beach is a hidden jewel to the south of Agios Nikitas village. Milos is one of the most beautiful beaches on Lefkada. It is a beautiful unspoiled spot with shiny sand. There is small, white gravel on the coast and in the water so the sea is light blue and milky like on the other famous beaches on Lefkada. The beach is surrounded with high hills and even if it’s large, it looks cozy and isolated from everything that contributes to the enjoyment. This week I am going to be sailing the Ionian islands in Greece. After landing in Preveza, Greece, I got the bus to Plataria on the Greek mainland from which I will be starting the sailing journey. The first stop is Corfu Island. The Ionian Sea is the easiest and the best place for a beginner sailor. This is going to be a complete North To South Ionian sailing flotilla for 2 weeks. I will first set sail and head to the historical Corfu town. This time I am sailing on an old Beneteau yacht, which is not my favourite and I end up having a lot of problems with it. Thankfully an engineer was nearby to help fix the main safety hazards on the boat.
