Here's the progress I made on my co-op, round-based zombie game since the last video. The game is a first person shooter set in World War 1, inspired by games like the Call of Duty franchise and Battlefield 1. I added recoil and camera shake, using the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as inspiration for how it should look. I also expanded the map so now you can open the barrier and progress to the next area. I challenge myself to remake my first game ➤Click This to Subscribe Accidentally on Purpose - 🤍 ➤Twitter - 🤍 // descriptive description Since I'd been working hard at getting back into game dev, I thought it would be fun to go back to my roots five years ago when I first dabbled in it. My goal was to remake my first game, basically a roll-a-ball game with a few a hacked on mechanics and levels, but this time around I would challenge myself (and hopefully avoid tutorial purgatory) by not directly googling how to do anything - in essence, no tutorials besides good old Unity documentation and forums. I had no idea just what was in store for me and what I thought would only take weeks - took months. Even though it took forever, the whole process was actually really fun and I learned a lot more than I thought I would - a bit of everything from programming, 3d modeling, animation, sound design, optimization, and much more. It might be a bit of a jump, but AI is next on my list! As for what the game I’ve made actually is/will become, I have no idea! Right now I've got an idea of making some sort of metroidvania since your mobility is pretty limited as sphere and new abilities would really help with traversal, but really I’ll just have to see what happens as I add, remove, and refine different mechanics. These are my first steps into rebuilding an old prototype I worked on a few years ago in the unity engine. It's inspired by 2.5d Zelda games with a top down camera perspective, however all aspects of the design wont be based on Zelda, just the general feel of exploring dungeons and fighting monsters. The main focus is going to be combat with less enthesis on puzzle solving. I have plans going forward with the project but the short term goal is to create a working prototype with the bare minimum required for this to be a game. The game has lore written and a title already, but I will reveal more when the initial build is ready. Texas Rogue'Em is an isometric 3D action RPG roguelike inspired by games like Diablo, Enter The Gungeon, andoddly enoughpoker. It is currently in development with a TBD release date. We are using the Unity Engine to build the game, Blendr to create custom assets, and filling in the gaps with whatever third-party assets we can find. This devlog is all about procedural generationthe technique that will allow us to create new dungeons for the player on each new run through the game. Since last time I've created an all new item system for the game, in preparation for loads of new factory additions (including new machines) over the coming months. I've also added a key new bit of UI called the ID Tool. All that and more in this Unity Indie Factory Builder game devlog! ➤ Description It's been a while, but despite quite a major health setback just after the last devlog came out, I've tried to get as much done on the game as possible. I'm preparing to add a load of new features to the factory builder side of things, as it's been way too long and I think there's plenty of room for improvement. The first part of that is implementing a new item system. Items now have properties that can be modified by machines, and I've also added the ID Tool - a UI tooltip that gives context information about any item in the forest that you hover over. It feels good to be making devlogs again, and to be back to work in Unity on Lumbermill! ➤ About BWDev If you're new to the channel, welcome! I'm a full time Indie Game developer working in Unity 2D.
