DeFi Explained in Two Minutes

I’m back with another two minute explainer video! This time I’m tackling ...DeFi. 🥳 Subscribe for more 2 Minute Crypto Explainer Videos 🥳 🤍 What defi? We’ll start by defining it and then dive into what Defi tools have already existed in the market and then what this new wave of Defi is all about. Defi stands for decentralized finance and is a wide overarching term used to describe various financial tools within the blockchain eco-system. It essentially leverages decentralized networks to transform old financial products into trustless protocols that run without intermediaries. There are several DeFi tools that have existed for a while - things such as decentralized exchanges also known as DEX’s, lending platforms, stable coins and prediction markets… but what is this new wave of defi all about? Well, you may have heard the term “hodling” where people essentially hold their cryptocurrency long term and the gains that they make are based on the price of the coin going up - in contrast these new DeFi tools offer a more complex, potentially more rewarding, but certainly riskier way to earn with your crypto. Two of the most popular tools are yield farming and liquidity pools - so let’s dive into what those mean. Yield Farming - essentially the process of earning returns, or yields on your capital by putting it to more productive use. Money markets offer the simplest way to earn yields on your crypto and this setup is optimal for financial speculators who want to obtain leverage on their capital Now Liquidity pools may offer better yields than money markets, but there is additional market risk. How that works is platforms such as Uniswap offer liquidity providers (LPs) with fees as a reward for adding their assets to a pool. Liquidity pools are generally configured between two assets in a 50-50 ratio and LP’s earn a fee for helping to facilitate the market. However, there is risk of impermanent loss, which is the loss created by providing liquidity for an asset that could rapidly change in value. For example - if you were an LP for an ethereum and a particular defi coin pool and the price of the defi coin suddenly plummets… it would try to rebalance - meaning you could see a loss of your original ethereum. There are a lot of different ways to interact with these financial instruments and the right setup for each person really varies based on the amount of capital you have, your investment timeline, and your desired level of risk. Please be careful as there are many scams in this new emerging market and so always do your own research before investing . I hope you found this video helpful and i’ll be back soon with more 2 minute blockchain explainer videos. 🔥Let's Be Friends 🔥 Website - 🤍 YouTube - 🤍 Twitter - 🤍 Linkedin - 🤍 Instagram - 🤍 Hive - 🤍 Steem - 🤍 Flote - 🤍 TikTok - 🤍 Facebook - 🤍 Periscope - 🤍 #DeFi #Crypto #YieldFarming #LiquidityPools #LiquidityMining

DeFi or decentralized finance is a movement that aims at making a new financial system that is open to everyone and doesn't require trusting intermediaries like banks. To achieve that defi relies heavily on cryptography, blockchain and smart contracts. Smart contracts are the main building blocks of defi. If you don't know what smart contracts are or you want to refresh your knowledge you can pause this video and watch my introduction to smart contracts video first. Smart Contracts Explained ► 🤍 It's worth noticing that currently most if not pretty much all of the defi projects are built on Ethereum. The main reason for this is the Ethereum's fairly robust programming language called Solidity that allows for writing advanced smart contracts that can contain all the necessary logic for the defi applications, besides that Ethereum has the most developed ecosystem across all the smart contract platforms with thousands of developers building new applications every day and the most value locked in smart contracts which create an additional network effect. In fact, all the defi protocols mentioned in this video are built on Ethereum. Website ► 🤍 Post ► 🤍 Patreon ► 🤍 Follow me on Twitter ► 🤍

That’s not surprising seeing that within the space of two years DeFi has gone from having less than $60 million locked in the ecosystem to nearly $800 million at the time of this video’s release. 💰 What is DeFi? 💰 DeFi takes products and services from traditional finance and decentralizes them by replacing middlemen with smart contracts. 👯 What Are People Doing In DeFi? 👯 Today, the most common uses of DeFi are: Borrowing money Supply money to earn interest However, the key thing here is that this all takes place outside of the traditional banking system. That means no KYC, no need to get approval from anyone, no credit scores, no requirement for a bank account and no descrimination based on where you live. 🏦 The DeFi Ecosystem 🏦 The emerging DeFi ecosystem is already home to a wide range of platforms like DeFi loan comparison sites, automated trading solutions, lending platforms, non-custodial margin trading platforms and much more, 🔮 The Future of DeFi? 🔮 Decentralized Finance has already seen phenomenal growth over the last few years. However, there are over 1.7 billion unbanked people in the World excluded from the traditional financial system who could benefit from DeFi. Imagine if you are living in a developing country with high inflation. DeFi gives you the opportunity to get out of your local currency and hold USD via stable coins like Dai. Even better, you can then take that Dai and lend it out at 5+% interest on DeFi platforms like Compound Finance. DeFi already offers people the tools to hedge out local currency risk and that’s a pretty big deal in countries like Venezuela. Although DeFi loans currently need to be over-collateralized, I imagine it will only be a matter of time befer under-collateralized loans are available via a form of DeFi borrowing reputation system. 🤔 Problems With DeFi? 🤔 It’s hard for the average person to access DeFi and that's due to friction between the crypto and traditional finance ecosystem. That’s where tech solutions like Nimiq OASIS can come in by providing FIAT smart contracts which enable non-custodial crypto:fiat trades. This solution is set for launch this year in partnership with Ten31 bank and has been developed by the crypto project Nimiq. Adoption of this solution certainly has the potential to make it much easier for people to access the DeFi ecosystem. Another major issue facing DeFi are smart contract bugs. These could result in DeFi users losing access to a significant amount of funds and it’s even more worrying seeing that bugs are not unheard of in smart contracts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 📜 Disclaimer 📜 The information contained herein is for informational purposes only. Liquidity pools, in essence, are pools of tokens that are locked in a smart contract. They are used to facilitate trading by providing liquidity and are extensively used by some of the decentralized exchanges a.k.a DEXes. One of the first projects that introduced liquidity pools was Bancor, but they became widely popularised by Uniswap. Curve realised that the automated market making mechanism behind Uniswap doesn't work very well for assets that should have a very similar price, such as stable coins or different flavours of the same coin, like wETH and sETH. Curve pools, by implementing a slightly different algorithm, are able to offer lower fees and lower slippage when exchanging these tokens. The other idea for different liquidity pools came from Balancer that realised that we don't have to limit ourselves to having only 2 assets in a pool and in fact Balancer allows for as many as 8 tokens in a single liquidity pool. So what’s the story behind Decentralized Finance? How has all of this started? What happened in DeFi in 2020? And where are we going in the future? You’ll find answers to these questions in this video. Although there is no one agreed-upon date when decentralized finance was born, there were a few important events that made DeFi possible. The first of them was the creation of Bitcoin in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto. Despite whether Bitcoin should be classified as DeFi or not, its inception was the key enabler for the whole cryptocurrency industry which decentralized finance is part of. Although sending Bitcoin around the world is cool - finance doesn’t stop there. Every robust financial system needs a set of other important services such as lending, borrowing, trading, funding or derivatives. Ethereum, with its Turing-complete programming language Solidity and the ERC20 standard for creating new tokens, quickly became a go-to smart contract platform to build on. 📘 DeFi Guide ► 🤍 📖 Post ► 🤍 🐦 Follow Finematics on Twitter ► 🤍 💛 Support Finematics on Patreon and join our Discord community ► 🤍 🔒 Ledger ► 🤍 (affiliate) 📱 Argent Wallet ► 🤍 (affiliate) 🌐 Get your .crypto Unstoppable Domain ► 🤍

Lending And Borrowing In DEFI Explained - Aave, Compound

So have you ever been wondering how lending and borrowing works in DeFi? How are the supply and borrow rates determined? And what is the main difference between the most popular lending protocols such as Compound and Aave? We’ll answer all of these questions in this video. Lending and borrowing is one of the most important elements of any financial system. Most people at some point in their life are exposed to borrowing, usually by taking a student loan, a car loan or a mortgage. The whole concept is quite simple. Lenders a.k.a. depositors provide funds to borrowers in return for interest on their deposit. Borrowers or loan takers are willing to pay interest on the amount they borrowed in exchange for having a lump sum of money available immediately. DeFi lending allows users to become lenders or borrowers in a completely decentralized and permissionless way while maintaining full custody over their coins. 📘 DeFi Guide ► 🤍 📖 Post ► 🤍 🐦 Follow Finematics on Twitter ► 🤍 💛 Support Finematics on Patreon and join our Discord community ► 🤍 🔒 Stay secure with a Ledger hardware wallet (20% off) ► 🤍 (you can use it with Metamask to interact with DeFi protocols) 🌐 Get your .crypto Unstoppable Domain ► 🤍

Is blockchain technology supposed to solve each and every problem humanity has? Most definitely not. But for certain problems, it represents an excellent fit and financial services are perhaps the elephant in the room in terms of obvious examples. If Bitcoin has proven to be such a good option for the decentralization of money, why should things be taken one step further so as to also decentralize... well, finance? As the name "decentralized finance" suggests, that's precisely the name of the game when it comes to DeFi. As complex as the term may seem, understanding how things work doesn't involve rocket science. The main goal is essentially eliminating the middleman by making it possible to receive financial services without depending on a central authority. Just like Bitcoin can be stored and sent without there being a central authority such as PayPal which has the right to shut down your account at any point, DeFi technically makes it possible to receive banking services without a centralized bank. Or services pertaining to buying/selling assets. Or insurance... the list could go on and on. In one minute, it's time to make what many believe to be an ultra-complicated term simple to understand :)

Currently, the entire traditional finance industry is “centralized.” So, although DeFi stands for the term “decentralized finance,” the word DeFi is used colloquially to describe the movement or crusade towards a low-cost, fast, efficient, trustworthy, and completely transparent global financial ecosystem. The new financial era will operate on the very place from which numbers, mathematics, physics, and computer science were derived: the ever-enduring fabric of the universe. in the coming years, DeFi will allow the entire financial foundation to operate purely from principles of mathematics and computer science using what’s known as blockchain technology. Blockchain technology is the cornerstone of decentralized finance, as it's what makes the decentralization aspect of DeFi possible. The idea of, and desire for, a crusade towards decentralized finance, or DeFi, emerged back in November of 2018. There are 5 components to the DeFi stack: Stablecoins, Exchanges, Money Markets, Synthetics, and Insurance. The simplest way to describe and understand DeFi’s architecture, or the relationship between all of these components and decentralized financial applications on Ethereum is by comparing them to Legos. One of the main principles of the DeFi ecosystem is to achieve interoperability. That way, each new project doesn’t just exist as an individual product or service, but rather serves as a new lego piece, or building block developers can leverage for other projects. So instead of choosing from a pile of random legos to start assembling something, they can actually take an existing lego structure to run with in a new direction. So what is Aave all about? How was it able to go from $0 to $3B in total value locked in less than a year? And what’s the use case for the AAVE token? You’ll find answers to these questions in this video. The initial version of Aave - which is currently one of the most popular lending protocols in decentralized finance - came into existence in 2017. Before the rebranding that happened later in September 2018, the project was known as ETHLend. ETHLend was started in Finland by Stani Kulechov. Stani, a law degree graduate, discovered Ethereum, realised the power of smart contracts and decided to build a peer-to-peer lending protocol.

What Are NFTs and How Can They Be Used in Decentralized Finance? DEFI Explained

So what are NFTs all about? And how can they be used in decentralized finance? You’ll find answers to these questions in this video. 💛 Gitcoin ► 🤍 Okay, so let’s start with what NFTs actually are. NFTs stand for non-fungible tokens and they are one of the types of cryptographic tokens that can represent ownership of digitally scarce goods such as pieces of art or collectibles. “Non-fungible” is not a very popular word so let’s see what it really means. In economics, fungibility is the characteristic of goods or commodities where each individual unit is interchangeable and indistinguishable from each other. Although NFTs can be implemented on any blockchain that supports smart contract programming, the most noticeable examples are ERC-721 and ERC-1155 standards on Ethereum. When it comes to DeFi, NFTs can unlock even more potential for decentralized finance. Currently in DeFi, the vast majority of DeFi lending protocols are collateralized. One of the most interesting ideas is to use NFTs as collateral. This means that now you’d be able to supply an NFT representing a piece of art, digital land or even a tokenised real estate, as collateral and borrow money against it. 📖 Post ► 🤍 🐦 Follow Finematics on Twitter ► 🤍 💛 Support Finematics on Patreon and join our Discord community ► 🤍 🔒 Stay secure with a Ledger hardware wallet (20% off) ► 🤍 (you can use it with Metamask to interact with DeFi protocols) 🌐 Get your .crypto Unstoppable Domain ► 🤍

Yield Farming is now one of the hottest topics in decentralized finance and there is a high chance you may have already heard something about insane returns that some of the yield farmers are making. So what is yield farming? How did it all start? What are some of the examples of yield farming? And also what are the risks involved? We'll be going through all of this in this video. But before we start, if you're new to DeFi you may want to pause this video and watch my introduction to decentralized finance video first. 🤍 Yield Farming, in essence, is a way of trying to maximise a rate of return on capital by leveraging different DeFi protocols. Yield farmers try to chase the highest yield by switching between multiple different strategies. The most profitable strategies usually involve at least a few DeFi protocols like Compound, Curve, Synthetix, Uniswap or Balancer. If the strategy doesn't work anymore or if there is a better strategy available the yield farmers move their funds around. They may, for example, move the funds between different protocols or they may swap some of their coins to other ones that are currently generating more yield. In our yield farming world, this procedure is sometimes called crop rotation. What Is IMPERMANENT LOSS? DEFI Explained - Uniswap, Curve, Balancer, Bancor

Have you ever provided liquidity to a liquidity pool just to realise that some of your coins have gone missing? In this video, we’ll learn what “impermanent loss” is and how it can affect liquidity providers’ profits. In essence, impermanent loss is a temporary loss of funds occurring when providing liquidity. It’s very often explained as a difference between holding an asset versus providing liquidity in that asset. Impermanent loss is usually observed in standard liquidity pools where the liquidity provider (LP) has to provide both assets in a correct ratio, and one of the assets is volatile in relation to the other, for example, in a Uniswap DAI/ETH 50/50 liquidity pool. If ETH goes up in value, the pool has to rely on arbitrageurs continually ensuring that the pool price reflects the real-world price to maintain the same value of both tokens in the pool. This basically leads to a situation where profit from the token that appreciated in value is taken away from the liquidity provider. At this point, if the LP decides to withdraw their liquidity, the impermanent loss becomes permanent. How Does THORCHAIN Work? DEFI Explained

So what is Thorchain all about? How does it work? And how does it make it possible to swap between native assets across different blockchains? You’ll find answers to these questions in this video. With billions of dollars in trading volume, decentralised exchanges have been gaining more and more traction. It’s not uncommon to see over $1B in daily trading volume on Uniswap alone. Although protocols like Uniswap, Sushiswap or Curve are great when it comes to exchanging assets within the Ethereum ecosystem, they don’t support swaps between different blockchains. To accommodate this problem, a common approach is to represent external assets in the form of wrapped or synthetic tokens on Ethereum. The most popular asset on other blockchains outside of Ethereum is of course Bitcoin. There are multiple ways of representing Bitcoin on Ethereum that allows it to be traded on decentralized exchanges. Wrapped Bitcoin, renBTC, sBTC to name a few. Even though most of these approaches work fine, they usually make certain tradeoffs when it comes to either the custody or the security of the assets. If you want to learn more about it check out this video here. What if there was a way of swapping native assets instead? For example, making a trade between Bitcoin on the Bitcoin blockchain and Ether on the Ethereum blockchain. And this is exactly where Thorchain comes into play. 💰 Bitcoin On Ethereum video ► 🤍 💧 Liquidity Pools video ► 🤍 📘 DeFi Guide ► 🤍 📖 Post ► 🤍 🐦 Follow Finematics on Twitter ► 🤍 💛 Support Finematics on Patreon and join our Discord community ► 🤍 🔒 Ledger ► 🤍 (affiliate) 📱 Argent Wallet ► 🤍 (affiliate) 🌐 Get your .crypto Unstoppable Domain ► 🤍

The protocol has a native token called AAVE, which is also a governance token that lets the defi community decide the direction of the protocol in a collective manner. Lenders can earn interest by providing liquidity to the market, while borrowers can borrow by collateralizing their cryptoassets to take out loans from the liquidity pools. 🚀Find the most undervalued gems, up-to-date research, and NFT buys with Altcoin Buzz Access🚀 Join Altcoin Buzz Access Pro FOR FREE➡️ 🤍 ●▬▬▬▬▬▬Freebies▬▬▬▬▬▬▬● 📖FREE WEEKLY MARKET & NFT UPDATE REPORTS 🤍 ➡️ FREE CRYPTO PROJECT EVALUATION CHECKLIST Use this checklist to help you with the research and due diligence process for any crypto project. 🤍 ●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Affiliate Links▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬● 💰Binance US Affiliate Sign-Up Links💰 🚩Binance US 🤍 💰MEXC Affiliate Sign-up link💰 🤍 ( ●▬▬▬▬▬▬Community & Socials▬▬▬▬▬▬▬● 💰FREE TRADING SIGNALS 🤍 🗣️ALTCOIN BUZZ CHAT 🤍 🌍TOP CRYPTO NEWS 🤍 📰FREE NEWSLETTER 🤍 🔷TWITTER 🤍 🔗COINGECKO 🤍 ●▬▬▬▬▬▬Disclaimer▬▬▬▬▬▬▬● The information discussed by Altcoin Buzz is not financial advice. So what are derivatives? Why are they important? And what are some of the most popular derivatives protocols in defi? You’ll find answers to these questions in this video. Every growing market naturally develops its own derivatives market that can end up being an order of magnitude bigger than its underlying market. This is also why a lot of people in the decentralized finance space are extremely bullish on the potential of decentralized derivatives that, in contrast to traditional finance, can be created by anyone in a completely permissionless and open way. This in turn increases the rate of innovation that has been stagnating in traditional finance already for a while. Decentralized Finance, or DeFi, has been gaining quite the buzz lately among those looking to make money with cryptocurrency. While it might seem difficult to understand at first, especially with the many decentralized finance platforms out there, the concept behind DeFi is relatively simple and easy to grasp once you get down to it. ▶▶Watch Part 2 ▶▶ 🤍 In this video, we're going to explain how to make money from crypto, but this time with the least amount of risk possible. It'll also involve something so new that the hedge funds haven't picked it up yet. This new thing is called DeFi. Decentralized Finance, also known as DeFi, refers to the ecosystem of decentralized applications that enable cryptocurrency holders to invest and lend without going through any central entity, like a bank or brokerage firm. This way, users can take advantage of the new opportunities made possible by Decentralized Finance without needing to trust anyone else with their money. With DeFi, your money will be safer and easier to manage than ever before, and you'll be able to make money doing things that you might not have been able to do before. Before any further, it's important to note that DeFi encompasses more than just the use of cryptocurrency and blockchain; it also includes everything from digital wallets to smart contracts to lending platforms. Starting off, the first way to start making money in DeFi is by Lending. Now you're probably thinking about how this means lending your cryptocurrency to other people. I am already aware that there are many BlockFi referral links all over the place. I understand that this is not Decentralized Finance. Indeed, this is CeFi. Defi stands for Decentralized Finance, which is a rather tricky way of saying it is not controlled by anyone. You can easily withdraw and transfer money whenever you want to, and you can do it all on your own. This makes it much more decentralized than banking institutions. This will allow you to lend out money at interest rates that you set. If someone borrows from you, they will pay interest based on what they borrowed, and when they pay back their loan, they'll get their original funds plus interest! This means if someone borrows $100 from you at an annual interest rate of 10%, then after a year, they'll owe $110 back to you. If you use BlockFi, you are actually giving them your crypto. And it's their job to withdraw it for you, but it's still important to wait for a minimum of 24 hours to provide oversight. Notwithstanding, their current rates are 7%, and with those, you might as well just invest in the stock market, right? In addition, I've noticed they've been lowering their rates. #crypto #cryptocurrency #altcoins Thank you for watching! Please SUBSCRIBE and LIKE this video!
