US forces have killed Islamic State leader, Bilal al-Sudani, and 10 of his operatives in northern Somalia, American officials say. A remote cave complex was raided by US special forces in a bid to capture Al-Sudani, who allegedly funded the group's activities globally. Analysts say the fact that US troops were sent to kill or capture Sudani, rather than using a less risky drone strike, indicates his significance. Donald Trump will be allowed back on to Facebook and Instagram, after Meta announced it would be ending its two-year suspension of his accounts. The then-US president was indefinitely suspended from Meta’s platforms after the Capitol riots in 2021, as his posts were judged to pose a risk to public safety. Republicans have been pressing for Mr Trump to be allowed back on Facebook as he prepares to run for the US presidency again next year. But, the former president has an exclusivity agreement with social media platform Truth Social, and there is some suggestion that posting elsewhere could open him up to legal problems. German defence minister Boris Pistorious has denied that his country is isolated within Nato as it continues to resist sending battle tanks to Ukraine. Ukraine has called on the West to provide the German-made Leopard 2 tanks which they say will help them defeat Russia. However, Germany is yet to agree and its export laws have stood in Poland's way. Speaking during a press conference with Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Pistorious said he expected a decision on the delivery of the tanks “soon”. At least 124 people have died in freezing temperatures in Afghanistan in the past fortnight, Taliban officials say. About 70,000 livestock had also perished in what is the coldest winter in a decade, a State Ministry for Disaster Management spokesman said. Many aid agencies suspended operations in recent weeks after the Taliban banned Afghan women from working for non-governmental organisations. Classified documents have been found at former US Vice-President Mike Pence's home in the latest secret paper discovery. The US will send 31 powerful battle tanks to Ukraine, joining Germany in sending the vehicles to support the fight against Russia's invasion. The production of opium increased sharply in Myanmar, rising by a third last year, according to the United Nations. It touched nearly 795 metric tonnes in 2022, nearly double the production in 2021 - 423 metric tonnes - the year of the military coup. The UN believes this is driven by economic hardship and insecurity, along with higher global prices for the opium resin that is used to make heroin. Japan's prime minister says his country is on the brink of not being able to function as a society because of its falling birth rate. Fumio Kishida said it was a case of "now or never." Japan - a population of 125 million - is estimated to have had fewer than 800,000 births last year. In the 1970s, that figure was more than two million. Humans share common sign language with wild apes, a study has found. The research revealed that humans are capable of understanding many of the gestures wild chimps and bonobos use to communicate with one another. The video-based study was carried out by researchers at St Andrews University in Scotland, with volunteers translating ape gestures. The US state of California is reeling from hits second mass shooting in days after a man shot dead seven former co-workers south of San Francisco. The attacks took place in the coastal city of Half Moon Bay. The victims were all Chinese-American farm workers. Suspect Zhao Chunli, 67, was arrested after driving to a police station. A man has shot dead 10 people near Los Angeles in one of California's deadliest mass shootings. Another 10 people were wounded with some in a critical condition. Ukraine's defence minister has said he had a "frank discussion" with his German counterpart about Germany’s Leopard 2 tanks, which Kyiv is urgently requesting to confront Russian armour. Germany has not yet decided whether to send the tanks to Ukraine, or allow other countries to donate theirs, despite pressure on Berlin to act. "We had a frank discussion on Leopards 2. Jacinda Ardern has announced she will quit as New Zealand prime minister ahead of this year's election, saying she no longer has "enough in the tank" to lead. US President Joe Biden has said his country will send 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. Mr Biden said the number of tanks is the equivalent of one Ukrainian battalion, on the recommendation of US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin. He said these are "the most capable tanks in the world". The president said that the aid is being used to help Ukraine defend and protect its land, adding "there is no offensive threat to Russia". Russia's ambassador in Washington earlier warned that any deliveries of US tanks would amount to a “blatant provocation against the Russian Federation”.
