On the morning of February 24th, Russian forces launched a multi-pronged invasion by land, air, and sea on Ukraine – and now millions of Ukrainian adults and children have been caught in the violence, creating the fastest-growing refugee crisis in modern history. Latest UN reports indicate that more than 2,800 civilians, including children, have died in the fighting, and more than 3,100 have been injured - as civilian areas including hospitals, schools, and train stations have come under attack. The overall humanitarian crisis has also worsened, with millions of refugees now having fled Ukraine. Up to 200,000 people every day are fleeing, and there is no end in sight. The UN estimates as many as 5.4 million people have left Ukraine, and another 7.7 million are thought to be displaced inside the war-torn country itself. International 501(c)3 organization Americares has emergency response teams on the ground in Poland and Romania, meeting health needs and coordinating shipments of medicine and supplies. Americares is also providing emergency funding to local organizations supporting children and adults caught in the crisis. Americares, a health-focused relief and development organization, responds to more than 30 natural disasters and humanitarian crises on average, each year. In support of this effort, please review the enclosed radio public service announcement (PSA). In partnership with Entertainment Industry Foundation, the campaign features Akim Aliu, Nigerian-born Canadian-Ukrainian former professional ice hockey player, who grew up in Kyiv, Ukraine.
