I used .035" er70s6 wire and C25 gas (75 argon/25 co2) The plates are A36 steel 3/8" thick with a 30 degree bevel. gap was 5/32" with no land Settings for root were 17 volts and 180 ipm on wire speed second pass settings were 18 volts 210 ipm cover pass settings were 17.7 volts 200 ipm I also did a quick cut and etch macro test at the end to verify fusion between each pass.

This video shows mig welding techniques as well as push vs pull tests. For welding accessories, visit my store 🤍 A good way to test for penetration is the cut and etch test. If the test is done while the weld is still fresh on your mind, you can correlate results with what you saw and welding technique can be adjusted and improved. I used a lincoln power mig 210mp for the first welds with settings of 19 volts and 310 inches per minute of wire speed using .030" diameter er70s6 wire.
