Looked straight ahead, not looking at Biden or Blinken once wit a pinched face where he usually smiles. Maybe there was a monitor translating off camera or maybe he was wondering if Putin would invade HIS country if he looked happy.

The pawn analogy is rather unfortunate phrasing. Forgive me for any cultural ignorance for Poland but in the United States that has.. manipulative implications.
We aren't seeking pawns, we're seeking partners.
Russia wants pawns, nations that will fit under Russia's power structure.

We want partners who can stand on their own, who are willing to work with us. We tried creating satellite nations for the US in the Afghan and Iraq wars and I didn't work for us.
We need partners like Poland who are willing to step up and shoulder their end of the burdens. Even if we don't always agree on everything.

We want to engage in relations with people who choose to stand with us, Not those that we have conglomerated into our sphere of power.
Those kinds of allies become liabilities in the long run.
Ones that we cannot afford, both financially & politically.
